How To Get Back The Classic WinXP Alt-Tab in Windows 7

If you have migrated to Windows 7 from Windows XP, you’ll realise that a lot has changed, including the alt-tab functionality. In the default Windows 7 behaviour, alt-tab shows thumbnails, but looks messy and cluttered, not to mention slow.

Thankfully, you can still get back the Windows XP alt-tab functionality. Just follow these steps:

  1. Go to your start menu, and click on Run…
  2. Type “regedit”
  3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
  4. Right-click, and create a new DWORD named “AltTabSettings”, and set the value to 1
